End Of My Pricegrabber Gig

So as some of you know for the past 6 months I’ve been writing for the Pricegrabber gadget blog, Gotta Have. Well I’ve decided to knock this on the head for now. It was a really enjoyable 6 months, and something that has got me thinking about future opportunities such as this. I just published my final blog post this morning.

A really good time was had,  and hopefully not the last time I do something like this.

Never Miss A Photo Opportunity

A pretty useful post over at DPS on how to make sure you never miss a photo opportunity. I have to agree with all of these points.I think the one that I’ve learnt most is to always carry a camera (of sorts) with me. I’m trying when possible to always have my DSLR with me, but when that’s not possible I’ll have my n95 which takes pretty good snaps.

Why Photo Recces Are Almost As Important As Photography Itself

So last night myself and Andrew headed out on a bit of a wonder around Cambridge taking photos. After about an hour we decided to leave this well trodden route and head out to the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory.

After being quite a reasonable day, weather wise, we were hopeful of some good light, and upon arrival our hopes were almost realised as the sun poked through for all of around 10 minutes. Now even though we didn’t get much of the golden hour presented to us this trip out was a good reminder to me that sometimes going on a photography Recce is almost as important as taking photos themselves.

Now that I’ve been out there I know a few useful things about this area in relation to photography

  • where to park the car (always useful)
  • how close I can get to the subject without trespassing
  •  when there is good light it will certainly look good
  • may also work for a nice sun-rise shot
  • don’t wear sandals

All in all, even though I only snapped about 2 photos I was pleased with, I’m so glad we decided to head out. It has now given me a real kick of the backside to get outside of my comfort zone (ie centre of Cambridge) and get some photos from further afield.

Recces a-plenty coming up !

Gordon Ramsey The Hypocrite

So was listening to Radio5 this morning on the way in to work they were discussing the fact that Gordon Ramsey is trying to get government to push through a bill to fine chefs in the UK who don’t use “in season” produce. Hang on a minute Gordon, aren’t you forgetting in your books and on your various shows you use some of the craziest (and certainly not UK based) produce?

Oh and what about your restaurant in Dubai - isn’t it true that there is no locally grown produce in Dubai.

Come on Gordon stop being a bloody hypocrite - in for a penny in for a pound and all that.

It also made me laugh as they had a chef on from the UK whos restaurant only sells dishes containing locally grown and in-season produce. When asked what was on the menu he replied with Rhubarb and errr .. wild leaves.

well this time of season is particularly difficult for us

Come on Radio5, do you research before inviting someone onto the program who instead of proving Gordon right actually puts serious argument for not having an in-season only menu.

The Big SwitchOver Has Started

imac_goodnessSo guess what just dropped through my letterbox about 30 minutes ago :) Yup the iMac has arrived ! Check out the unboxing videos here and the photos here.

I can tell I’m going to have a lot of fun with this. Of course the big issue is the fact I’ve got sooooo much work to do today, it’s going to be so hard to keep my hands off it until tonight. I guess I won’t be going to see Iron Man as planned.

Updated videos and photos as I switch it on and get going so keep it checking back in over the course of the next 24 hours.

All about the iMac train !
